Rafael Baez, MD, is an American board certified internal medicine and Nephrologist physician practicing in Ft Lauderdale area since 2013.

Dr. Rafael Baez completed his undergraduate, medical school, and fellowship training in his native Puerto Rico. Dr. Baez worked in a Quality Control laboratory for one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Puerto Rico. His interest in science and his desire to help others led him to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Baez did his medical school in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and his residency in Internal medicine at the University of Puerto Rico. During his training in Internal medicine, he was selected by his peer physicians as “Resident of the Year” for three consecutive years. He was honored to be chosen as Chief Resident during his training there, as well. Dr. Baez received the distinction of being named Chief Fellow during his training in Nephrology at the University of Puerto Rico. He also studied Transplant Nephrology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA.

Dr. Baez had several articles published in the Journal of the Society of Nephrology of Puerto Rico and later in the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension (SLANH), where he had the opportunity to do a Poster Presentation on Renal Biopsies in Puerto Rico and Vascular Access Outcomes in Interventional Nephrology. Dr. Baez is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Special areas of interest include hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplant

In 2013, Dr. Baez joined the Kidney and Hypertension Group in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Currently, the Kidney and Hypertension Group is the only practice in Florida certified by the American Society of Hypertension as a ‘Hypertension Center of Excellence’. Dr. Baez is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. He enjoys spending time as an Attending Physician with the UM Internal Medicine resident physicians during their Nephrology rotation.

His philosophy is based primarily on the prevention of diseases and its complications. He is a firm believer that educating patients about their conditions plays a key role in improving quality healthcare and controlling diseases.
